Why Your Pet Doesn’t Need Your Energy

Published on November 05, 2016
Duke and Daisy 617

Programmable thermostats are a fantastic way to help lower your energy bills. The ability to increase or decrease your thermostat from anywhere gives you’re the option to turn your thermostat down during the winter while you’re not in your home, but raise it in time for you to arrive and it be warm and toasty.

While this is a fantastic way to manage your energy budget and your home comfort, pet-owners become worried about turning the temperature down and leaving their furry friends without heat. But don’t worry; it’s common for cats to find a sunny spot to rest so they can regulate their body temperature, while dogs are actually able to handle colder temperatures in general. So long as you have a safe place that’s free from extreme temperatures, most healthy household pets should be fine if you decrease your home’s temperature while you’re out of the house.

Your pet’s veterinarian is the ideal person to consult with to find out the lowest temperature you should set your thermostat to for your pet during the cooler seasons. A couple other tips to keep them warm and healthy during the heating season are below:

  • Be sure to keep your animals hydrated with fresh water and be sure to put out some extra food during the cooler seasons.
  • Try a sweater that covers all the way to the midsection, especially when your are outdoors. You can find some fashionable winter wear for animals at http://www.poochieheaven.com/.
  • Make sure their bedding is completely dry and add a couple extra covers during the lower temperature days.
