What causes indoor air pollution?

Many common items may contribute to poor indoor air quality in your Livermore home.

This includes:

  • Chemicals in [carpet, furniture and drapery that let off fumes
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Paint
  • Personal care products
  • Air fresheners and candles

Though they are often more efficient, modern homes don’t breathe the way older residences do. Secure weather stripping and storm doors keep indoor air in and exterior air out. This provides increased energy savings, but the lowered exchange of outdoor and indoor air can trigger pollutants increasing inside your home.

In these circumstances, a whole-house ventilation system is suggested. Ventilation systems replace dirty interior air for cleaner outside air without giving up energy savings.
